Throwing Courses

Throwing Courses

Joss regularly runs a two-day intensive Throwing course at Powdermills. The course provides a comprehensive introduction to the basic techniques of throwing, and is intended for beginners or undergraduates wishing to refine their skills. There is a maximum of 4 places on each course, with each attendee having use of their own electric wheel for the duration of the weekend.

Although the course content is tailored to the needs of the group, it is likely that the essential skills of throwing cylinders, bellies, bowls, lips and adding handles will be covered. Joss gives regular demonstrations to the group as a whole, and provides one-to-one advice where needed.

None of the pots produced during the weekend are kept or fired. You need to come prepared to work hard for two days and gain a dramatic improvement in your throwing skills.

If you are interested in attending the course, please read the further course information below, and see the Other Things to Do on Dartmoor page for a suggested accommodation list.
